Before preparing for class yet, I really do not know much about Schoology. I have heard a little bit about it and how great of a tool it is, but I have never used it. I know it is sort of like the moodle website that we use here at UMD where we have announcements, homework assignments, notes, quizzes, and so on. It is kind of an all-purpose tool. So I know it is an educational tool that has a lot of different purposes and is great to use in the classroom. I am curious about exactly what types of tools it has and how to use it in a classroom. I am curious as to know which website is more effective in its ability to help teachers, moodle or schoology? I am excited to know all of this information so that I can choose what kind of resources I will use in my future classroom someday.
For preparing for class, I learned so much more about the website and how to use it. I watched some of the videos for “Schoology Tutorials for Teachers” to help me get a good understanding of how to use the website. It taught me things as simple as how to log in and the basic overview of the home screen to how to create quizzes and assignments. These videos really helped me to get a grasp of what schoology was about and what kind of materials it has to offer. By going through these videos and tutorials, it showed me how easy this website is to make and get running. It is simple and pretty self-explanatory. While preparing for class, I also watched Helen’s Schoology Tutorial, which helped me to understand each of the functions and how to set it up the way I wanted to. This video was very helpful when it came to making my own schoology. The last thing I did when preparing for class was I had to make my own Schoology website course. My course I made was for Introduction to American Sign Language and Culture. Making the actual course myself really taught me what schoology is and how to make one for a class in the future. I learned that making it is really simple and actually kind of fun to make! I rather enjoyed it; finding out what works and does not, designing a layout, stuff like that. All of this preparing for class really taught me what I need to know about schoology in order to use it for teaching purposes.
My understanding about schoology has really expanded from the beginning where I knew very little to now where I have made a course and know how to use many of the functions. At the very beginning, all I had heard about is it was similar to the system we use at school now and that it is a very helpful tool. Going through the process of preparing for class taught me a ton because I watched videos on what schoology was and how it worked. Then I was able to make my own course on whatever I wanted. By going through the motions and actually making the course made my learning so much more effective because I was putting it all together. Going to class and talking about my learning with the group made my understanding and knowledge of schoology more concrete. Now that we are done with schoology, I feel like I have learned enough and have enough resources where I would be able to do a lot of this on my own in the future. I really like schoology and how it works.

- “Instructor Guide for Schoology Support.” Web. 8 Nov. 2015. This website “Instructor Guide for Schoology Support” is a “how to” website for those who are new to Schoology, like me. Here it gives you tons of resources to help you set up your schoology account, to create your courses, and how to add a whole lot of material to those courses. There are different areas you can click on to learn about more and more specific information to what you are looking for. There is also a section on the bottom where you can leave comments and questions if you would like to, this helps with interacting with and learning from others. This resource is very helpful because when you get stuck and not sure how to fix something, this website literally has all the information you need to figure everything else. This is a good resource to fall back on when you are not entirely sure where else to turn. If I were have any trouble with schoology at all, I would definitely use this website!
- “Five Simple Ways to Set Up Your-Courses: The Back to School Essentials.” Web. 8 Nov 2015. This Website “Five Simple Ways to Set Up Your-Courses: The Back to School Essentials” is a website that has both examples of schoology courses and is also a type of blog for teachers. It gives tips on how to touch up your schoology course and gives labeled pictures to help guide you through it. It shows you techniques like how to do multi subjects, different types of plans, and how to pace yourself. Also, there is areas on this page where teachers can comment and ask questions. It is an area where anyone can respond, so the teachers can interact with each other and get new ideas. This is a really helpful website because it is written like it is by a teacher, making the material more relatable and easier to understand. Also, having the blogging section is nice because a lot of questions you already have may be asked and answered already. I think this is a great resource for teachers who are new and just starting out because they can get new ideas and see examples of how it is being done. If I would have had this website before making my schoology course, it would have made things so much easier.
