SMARTboards and Interactive Whiteboard |
Slide #1In this first slide, I wrote out "ASL" and "Alphabet" in finger spelling by using the clip art tool in SMARTboard tools. I then used the text boxes to write all of the words that are seen on the slide. I made it so if you click the word "move", then it disappears and the letters that correlate with the finger spelling appear (ASL). I really liked learning about and using the "animation" tool to make the things more lively, like having them appear and disappear, fly on and off of the screen, etc. I would definitely use this feature in my teaching because it makes the learning more exciting and interactive with the students in order to maximize the learning outcome.

Slide #2In my second slide, I used the clip art again to spell out the word "video" in finger spelling. Then I used the text boxes to indicate that the finger spelling is a link to a video and also to describe what I want the students to do will the video is going on. I also made the word "video" a live link so that when you click onto it, it pops up with the Youtube video explaining the basics of the sign language alphabet. I really liked this tool in the SMARTboard toolbox because it makes it super easy to access a video from anywhere on the internet or on your personal computer. This is extremely helpful to use in the classroom because it maximizes the amount of learning time for the children instead of wasting time trying to find a video. I would use it in my classroom.

Slide #3In my third slide, I again used the clip art in the toolbox to make finger spelt letters. I used text boxes in order to display my instructions clearly and efficiently. I also used the line tool in the upper toolbar in order to make the pointing arrows. I used these in order to show both show which "letter" I am pointing to but to also show where the students are supposed to write down the answer with the pen. I made this activity in order to make this slideshow as interactive as possible. I like that the SMARtboard tools let me make any shape, any size, and any color that I want. This makes making slides and presentations so much more interesting and easier to explain things to the children. I likes these tools very much and will use them in my classroom because I feel that interactive actives such as this helps students really get involved with the learning because it is so hands-on.
Slide #4In my fourth slide, I use the text box again to clearly state my instructions so that every student is able to understand what is expected of them. I also used the pen in my presentation to show that I did the opposite of what they did in the last slide, which was that they were to write down the letter to the finger spelling. Now, I write down the letter and they are to try and finger spell it for me. I really like the pen tool because I feel like it gives some character to the slides because you are writing it out in your handwriting rather than typing it. I think it is very effective in helping children because using the pen helps the lesson become a hands-on classroom experience. Also, having the students look at the SMARTboard and do their own interpretation of what is asked is a great way to see if the students are learning, sort of like assessing them.
"Tweak" SlideI took this slide from a SMART exchange game about geography, but I changed it in order adapt it to my lesson. What I did to change it was I first put a huge white square underneath where it says "Description" so that all of the geography definitions would go away. Then I put colored blocks over the original blocks so that the words would go away. Then I went through and used to text boxes to put in my own terms and descriptions so that it was interactive and it went along with my lesson.
The SMART exchange website is super cool because it gives you templates that you can use for your own class and also examples of presentations teachers created and used. I will definitely use this when I am a teacher because it is a great resource for when you are stuck, and also it helps to make the learning more interactive with all of the templates of games and activities that you can download. For me, I would really use it for the games because I believe that interactive games truly help children learn. |
